About Me

When my daughter was born in July 2005 I started a blog to update our family and friends about her development and share photos. When I went back to work full time I found that my "day job" wasn't giving me the creative outlet I needed. Writing began to flow and I fell in love with my camera.

I needed a pseudonym, so I started doing some research. I had been practicing yoga for 5 years and had fallen in love with the symbolism of the lotus flower. The Buddhists believe that the lotus flower embodies infinite potential -- renewal, transformation and new beginnings. In my research I discovered that there are different colors of lotus flowers. The red lotus symbolizes the original nature of the heart. It is the lotus of love, compassion, passion, activity and all the qualities of the heart. To me this identified the new strange and unknown world of motherhood.

Last year my 5 year marriage crashed and burned. I realized that everything I had been hoping for and dreaming for my family was never going to come true. I made the choice to end my marriage and start rebuilding myself. This past year I have stumbled and learned more than I ever have. But, I keep going with a smile on my face and love in my heart.

Over the 4 years this blog has seen my daughter grow and my marriage end. I have become that lotus flower searching for my potential as I transform into the woman, mother, writer and photographer I want to be.

I am the Red Lotus Mama.
